The Employment and Assistance Appeal Tribunal British Columbia (“Tribunal”) is currently seeking up to three (3) Members for its Accessibility Advisory Committee.
The Employment and Assistance Appeal Tribunal is an independent quasi-judicial agency established to determine appeals of Ministry decisions under section 17(3) of the Employment and Assistance Act, section 16(3) of the Employment and Assistance for Persons with Disabilities Act, and section 6(3) of the Child Care Subsidy Act.
The Tribunal is one of 750 public sector organizations required to comply with various legislative requirements prescribed to ensure accessibility by September 2024 through the Accessible BC Act and Regulation. As a public facing
As part of this process, an Accessibility Advisory Committee (“Committee”) has been established. The Committee’s primary objective is to provide input and direction to the Tribunal about its accessibility plan, public feedback mechanism, and other related issues which may deconstruct barriers that exist in preventing people from accessing the Tribunal’s services.
To comply with the legislative requirements, we are interested in speaking to individuals from the following groups:
• persons with disabilities or individuals who support or are representative of organizations that support persons with disabilities (note: PWD designation not mandatory);
• persons who self-identifies as an Indigenous person; or
• persons who reasonably reflect the diversity of persons in British Columbia.
Committee Members will be appointed to a two-year term, beginning immediately and a per-diem will be provided for attendance at monthly/bi-monthly meetings (subject to operational requirements).
While all qualified individuals are welcomed to apply, to prevent any conflict of interest, we request the following individuals not apply:
- those who will be appearing and/or have appeared before the Tribunal (or have immediate family members in the same situation);or
- are employed by organizations that represent appellants that appear before the Tribunal
